The HSUS Urges
Drives to Give Wildlife a Break
As we move closer to the “fall-back” of daylight savings time, The
Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is reminding drivers who find
themselves on the roads to slow down and be aware of wildlife activity.
The HSUS has designated October 25 – 31 as Give Wildlife a Brake™ Week
to highlight and curb the potentially fatal effects of low visibility
driving conditions on both wildlife and drivers. |

Will Strut for Dearborn Animal Shelter
The Stray Cat Strut will take to the streets of Dearborn next summer to
raise funds for a new $5 million animal shelter. Yet to be selected
artists will decorate more than 30 fiberglass cats, each balanced on two

Controlling Pyrexia Approved
Schering-Plough Animal Health Corporation announced that the US Food and
Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Banamine (flunixin meglumine) for
controlling pyrexia (fever) associated with acute mastitis, pneumonia
and endotoxemia, as well as controlling the inflammation in endotoxemia
such as that caused by coliform mastitis. |

Translocated Rhino Gives Birth in its New Home
A set of footprints
belonging to a baby greater one-horned rhino, discovered recently in
Nepal's Royal Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve, marks the second birth
among the four rhinos WWF helped moved there from Royal Chitwan National
Park in 2000. The baby's footprints were found next to those belonging
to one of the relocated rhinos, proving once again that the animals have
successfully adapted to their new home. |

Protection Group Demands End to Inhumane Tests of Botox® Cosmetic
WASHINGTON (October 19, 2004) – The Humane Society of the United States
(HSUS) today called on Allergan, Inc., to commit publicly to a plan that
rapidly replaces the use of animals in the testing of BOTOX® Cosmetic.
The HSUS is seeking to influence the testing policies of the Irvine,
California-based company, in part, by mobilizing concerned members of
the
public, including Botox consumers and Allergan stockholders. |
